Countdown begins for 2010 Great Lakes Regional Dairy Conference

The Great Lakes Regional Dairy Conference is gearing up for another educational and fun-filled event, February 11-13. This year's conference will be held at the Bavarian Inn Lodge and Conference Center, Frankenmuth, Mich.

“We’ve worked hard to make sure we include quality information for all of the region’s dairy producers, farm managers and dairy industry professionals,” explains Brian Troyer, GLRDC executive director and dairy nutrition specialist for Caledonia Farmers Elevator. “Our goal is to provide an engaging venue for all sectors of the dairy industry to come together in one place at one time to learn and share information. We want to provide producers with a forum to gather the latest resources to help increase their profitability while doing more with less.”

Congratulations 2009 Dairy Ambassadors!

Two students with a passion for dairy cows and the dairy industry were selected to represent the Great Lakes Regional Dairy Conference through the Michigan Dairy Ambassador Program again this year.

Nicole Schaendorf, the daughter of John and Connie Schaendorf, is a junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and natural resources communications with a specialization in agribusiness management and public relations. She is a former Michigan FFA Region I state vice president.

Schaendorf will team up with MSU classmate Jacquelyn Rowley, who was picked as the first runner-up and the alternate in the senior division. Rowley, the daughter of Robert and Mary Rowley, Richmond, aspires to become a large animal veterinarian. She is completing her junior year at MSU studying animal science.

Matthew Mann, a junior at Camden-Frontier High School and the son of David and Ella Mann, Camden, was selected as the junior division winner of the Michigan Dairy Ambassador Program. Allison Oesch was picked as the first runner-up in the junior division. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Allen Grile, Alto, and a sophomore at Lowell High School.

The Michigan Dairy Ambassador Scholarship and Leadership Program was established by the GLRDC in 2006. The program provides young leaders with an opportunity to develop promotions and public service projects as well as represent the dairy industry at various functions throughout the year.
