02.20.06--St. Johns Brothers Named Dairy Farmers of the Year

Two progressive Clinton County dairy farmers were recognized for their industry leadership with the Dairy Farmer of the Year award, presented this month at the Great Lakes Dairy Conference (GLDC).  The Michigan State University (MSU) Department of Animal Science honored Ken and Larry Nobis, of St. Johns, Mich., with the award. Dairy producers left the Great Lakes Dairy Conference with two new spokespersons thanks to a program designed to train the industry's next generation. Colleen Jackson and Tera Koebel were named winners of the first-ever Michigan Dairy Ambassador Program during the fourth annual GLDC held February 2 to 4 . (.pdf)

11.30.05--New Youth Scholarship Opportunity Trains Future Dairy Leaders

A new scholarship program offered by the Great Lakes Dairy Conference will provide students interested in a career in the dairy industry with an opportunity to further their education both in and out of school. The Michigan Dairy Ambassador Program is designed to help students hone their leadership skills while learning more about the industry. (.pdf)

01.04.06--Producers Talk Reproduction at Dairy Conference

Dairy producers interested in upping their pregnancy rates will get advice from a panel of experts during the Great Lakes Dairy Conference, to be held February 2-4 at the Bavarian Inn Lodge and Conference Center in Frankenmuth. In this case, the experts are other producers with the same barriers and opportunities.

12.7.05--Partners Program Offers Enriching Encouragement

Lorraine Stewart Merrill, a farmer and Hoard’s Dairyman columnist, will kick off the Partner’s Program during the 2006 Great Lakes Dairy Conference, being held February 2 to 4 in Frankenmuth, Mich. Stewart Merrill’s interactive session addresses farm family relationships and communication.

12.15.05--Cornell Research Kicks Off Nutrition Portion of Dairy Conference

Mike Van Amburgh, a dairy science teaching and research professor at Cornell University, will help participants answer the tough questions about raising calves and heifers during the 2006 Great Lakes Dairy Conference (GLDC), to be held February 2 to 4 at the Bavarian Inn Lodge and Conference Center in Frankenmuth, Mich.
